As a part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, Bosque del Apache is one of the nicest and easiest to explore. One can drive around the entire park, stopping at observation decks, blinds, and roadside viewing points. There are also trails available for the adventurous.

This was my second visit to the park this year, the first being in April (link to that blog post here). One tour in the morning and one in the evening, both as the sunlight shown at low angles for the best photography of the birds and other critters.

Not as much variation this Fall as was last Spring, but much more prolific appearance of the Sandhill Cranes (above), Snow Geese, Northern Harrier, Great Blue Heron, etc. The Cranes and the Snow Geese were quite active as sunset approached. I was informed by the Park personnel that we were about a month shy of full migrative activity by the Cranes.

Anyway, I had fun and the birds were beautiful in their aerial negotiations. Please enjoy the gallery below.
